TOPIC: You Are More Than A Conqueror (Sunday, 11 March 2018)
FIRE SCRIPTURE: Romans 8:35-39

MEMORY VERSE: “And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.’’ –Colossians 2:15

MESSAGE:

What does it really mean to be “more than conquerors?” To be more than conquerors means we face the trials of life with the certainty that we are going to be victorious because we are not alone and we have a mighty Father who fights for us.

We approach the darkest valleys with confidence knowing that nothing can happen to us that is not permitted by our loving Father and we know that whatever He permits is for our good. Romans 8:37 says, “Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.” To conquer is to be victorious over an adversary.

To be “more than a conqueror” means we not only achieve victory but we are overwhelmingly victorious. What is even more important is that we have the victory thrust upon us by Christ. Christ won the victory for us when He defeated the devil and his cohorts.
Colossians 2:15 says “And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.” All we have to do is lay our hold on the victory by praying in the name of Jesus.
Humanly speaking, Israel was no match for their enemies (the Egyptians). But God cautioned them not to be afraid and that He would fight their battles for them. Exodus 14:14 says, “The LORD shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.” In the time of Deborah, the Bible says, “They fought from heaven; the stars in their courses fought against Sisera” (Judges 5:20).
When Sennacherib threatened Hezekiah, the Lord said, “Concerning the king of Assyria, He shall not come into this city, nor shoot an arrow there” (Isaiah 37:33) and “the angel of the LORD went out, and smote in the camp of the Assyrians an hundred fourscore and five thousand: and when they arose early in the morning, behold, they were all dead corpses” (2 Kings 19:35).
Here the Lord obtained victory for Israel without their knowledge or impute. God fights for us and some of us are ignorant of the unseen battles He wins for us and instead of thanking Him we go about complaining about the things He hasn’t done. No wonder 1 Thessalonians 5:18 says, “In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.”
Satan is our adversary. He sends all kinds of life-defeating, joy-stealing attacks to threaten the well-being and faith of God’s children. Many of those attacks such as hardship, persecution, famine, nakedness, and sword are listed in our text for today. Now, God wants us to be rest assured that we are overcomers and therefore stand firm on our faith when those attacks come. Remember that we are more than conquerors –God has given us the victory even before we are faced with any battle. Beloved, you need to possess this mentality and develop a habit of thanksgiving for the victory He has obtained for you through Christ Jesus and for every unseen battle He constantly fights and wins for you.
