JUNE 2022 IMPARTATION SERVICE – SUNDAY, 19TH JUNE 2022
ANCHOR SCRIPTURE(S): GENESIS 2:18
MESSAGE TOPIC: RELATIONSHIP AND MARITAL WISDOM (1&2)
By: Dr Paul Enenche

SERVICE OBJECTIVE(S):
1. Identifying foundational truths about marriage
2. Understanding the purpose of marriage
3. Unravelling relationship and marital wisdom

Marriage is such an important institution that deserves far more attention than it is currently given

WHY IS MARRIAGE SO IMPORTANT?
1. Marriage is literally as old as the creation of man

2. Marriage is so important that the relationship between Christ and the Church is likened to the relationship between the man and his wife (Eph. 5:23-25)

3. Marriage is so important that it is found both in the first book of the Bible and the last book of the Bible (Gen. 2:18; Rev. 19:9)

4. Marriage is so important because it is the oldest institution in the world (Gen. 2:21, 24)

5. Marriage is so important because it was God Himself Who joined/officiated the first wedding and whatever God is involved in must be very important

6. Marriage is so important that even though the Son of God did not need the seed of man to be born, yet He had to come through a marriage setting (Luke 1:26-27)

7. Marriage is so important that the first miracle that Jesus performed in the whole world happened at a wedding occasion (John 2:1-11)

FOUNDATIONAL TRUTHS ABOUT MARRIAGE:
1. God is the Originator, Initiator and Founder of Marriage (Gen. 2:18)

2. Marriage was instituted for the help, assistance and succour of the marriage partners (Gen. 2:18)

3. God caused the deep sleep to come on the man so He can be allowed to prepare what is best for him without interference (Gen. 2:21)

4. The woman was created from the rib taken from close to the heart of the man because she was created to be loved (Gen. 2:21-22)

5. The devil is agitated about God’s plan and purpose for marriage so he moves to antagonize the stability of the home (Gen. 2:24-25; 3:1)
Fight for your home, marriage and family

6. Marriage was instituted for the security and safety of the parties involved (Jer. 31:22)

7. The relationship between the man and his wife is like the relationship of flesh and bones with each other (Gen. 2:23)

8. For marriage to be successful there must be a leaving before there can be a cleaving (Gen. 2:24)
Any man or woman who allows extended family to have so much influence in their home then that home does not have a future

9. Mutual openness is key to marital success (Gen. 2:25)

10. The enemy targets marital harmony and dignity between married couples (Gen. 2:24-25; 3:1; 2:23; 3:11-2)

THE PURPOSE OF GOD FOR THE HOME:
1. The release or the supply of companionship or company (Gen. 2:18)

2. The achievement of fulfilment and satisfaction in life and destiny (Eccl. 4:9)
The wife and husband are meant to contribute to the satisfaction and fulfilment of their spouse

3. The release and multiplication of potentials (Eccl. 4:9)
Any husband choking the ability and capability of the wife is a mishusband and vice versa

4. The release of the Godly seed in the earth for the population of the earth with Kingdom seed (Mal. 2:14-15)
God wants you to produce Godly seed that will transmit Kingdom principles to the next generation
When a marriage has not produced Godly seed then it has not fulfilled a major purpose of its existence

RELATIONSHIP AND MARITAL WISDOM:
1. Trust the Lord to guide you into the right relationship (Prov. 3:5-6)
1a. God is the Originator of marriage, so if the marriage must have a future, He must guide you
1b. God knows the future more than you know the present
1c. God knows the content of every human being beyond their container
Inside some lamb-looking people are dangerous lions

2. Marry someone who truly loves and values you as a person, not someone who is in love with something you have (Gen. 24:67)

3. Never marry anyone who is marrying your money, property, position or influence (Gen. 24:67)
Men, when it is time to marry, marry someone you are in front of or at par with, with potential to move ahead

4. Be ready to love unconditionally and forgive continually (Matt. 6:15)
Try to overlook and forgive faults, except when you are being beaten continually
It is better to be without a marriage than to die because of marriage

5. Be committed to the fulfilment and satisfaction of your spouse, not just your satisfaction (Matt. 7:12)
Satisfaction and fulfilment must be mutual

6. Maintain trust at every cost (Prov. 18:24)
Let your spouse be able to trust you with information and trust you with their lives
Trust is the strength of relationship; when trust is dead, relationship is gone

7. Lubricate your relationship with joy and merriment (Prov. 17:22)
There is nothing as good for a relationship as a sense of humour

8. Trust God for a partner who truly loves and fears God because every authentic child of God will be a good wife/husband (2 Cor. 6:14)

9. Decide to marry someone you can listen to and submit to – someone you respect enough to value their counsel (Eph. 5:21-26).
Anyone you don’t think is valuable enough to give you counsel, why do you want to marry them?
Don’t marry anyone you cannot submit to or whose counsel does not matter to you

10. Marry someone who truly loves and values your family and loved ones (Ruth 1:16; Acts 14:20)
Anyone whose family you don’t want to accept, leave that family alone.

11. Give zero allowance for every form of abuse (Matt. 7:12)
Don’t do to anybody what you don’t want them to do to you, and don’t submit yourself to be handled in ways that you know the other person will not allow themselves to be handled
Be it verbal, emotional or physical – have zero allowance!
Life is too short to live it in tension

12. In communication, try to see things from the other person’s perspective (Jam. 1:19)
Try to understand before seeking to be understood
Sometimes it is better to judge the intention and pardon the action

13. Be friendly; maintain friendliness with your spouse (Prov. 18:24)
Lubricate your relationship with friendliness; don’t be more friendly with people outside than with your spouse
If your best friend and closest confidante is not your spouse then something is wrong somewhere
Dissolve the tension from your family and determine to maintain friendliness

14. Factor quality time together to activate relationship bonding (Gen. 26:8)
Do anything that is of mutual interest to both of you
No matter how crowded or busy your life is, never neglect time with your family
