ANCHOR SCRIPTURE(S): MATTHEW 14:24-31

MESSAGE TOPIC: THE WORST ENEMY OF FAITH – FEAR
By: Dr Paul Enenche

SERVICE OBJECTIVES:
1. Understanding what fear is
2. Understanding the adverse effect of fear
3. Understanding the sources of fear
4. Understanding the cure of fear

THINGS TO NOTE:
1. Faith is an inevitable necessity for the life and existence of the believer (Hab. 2:4)

2. The worst enemy of faith is fear (Matt. 14:28-31)

3. Until fear is addressed, faith is at risk.
The challenge of many people is not the absence of faith but the abundance of fear

WHAT IS FEAR?
1. Fear is an unpleasant emotion that is caused by the threat of danger, pain or harm – Oxford Dictionary

2. Fear is the feeling of anxiety concerning the outcome of something – Oxford Dictionary

3. Fear is the anticipation of something undesirable happening; the negative imagination of disaster (Job 3:24-25)

WHAT IS THE IMPACT OF FEAR?
1. Fear undermines the Almightiness and goodness of God (Matt. 14:30)
Fear is faith in reverse; it is a neutraliser of faith in God
Fear is a statement that insults the Omnipotence of God
Fear suggests the possibility that satan can defeat God in your life; it is a question mark on the loving-kindness of God

2. Fear exaggerates the wickedness and powerfulness of the devil (Job 3:25)
Fear means you doubt God and you believe the devil

3. Fear gives prohibition to the working of the Almighty (Heb. 11:6)
What moves God to work is faith, and what stops Him is fear which is a department of doubt

4. Fear grants permission to the devil to work (Job 3:25)
Audacity in the Spirit is not a luxury, it is a survival strategy so that you don’t end as a victim or like a chicken

5. Fear paralyses profitable action (1 Sam. 17:8-11, 24)
The gold belongs to the bold (the boldness of faith)
If you mind reactions you don’t take the right action

6. Fear causes established results to disappear (Job 1:1-3; Matt. 14:30)
What you had before, you begin to lose them when fear is allowed.
If you don’t want to lose it, don’t nurse the fear of losing it.

7. Fear brings the climate of torment (1 John 4:18)
Fear increases ‘miserability’
Fear makes a person suspect everybody until they begin to suspect themselves

8. Fear brings disastrous outcomes (Prov. 23:7)
Fear causes changes or outcomes that may not line up with reality
Fear is negative beliefs that produces negative outcomes
F = False
E = Evidence
A = Appearing
R = Real
The body is conditioned to function in certain ways if the mind is made to believe certain things

9. Fear endangers your eternity (Rev. 21:8)
The way you will treat anything that can take you to hell, that is how to treat fear.
