Encounter with Destiny Through Feet Washing – Bishop David Oyedepo

Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law (Psalms 119:18).

God’s Word is pregnant with wonders but it takes the Spirit of God opening our eyes to see beyond the letters to the wonders in the Word. We must understand that trading the wonders in the Word makes us wonders to our world. This is because God appears through His Word to open new chapters to our lives.

And the Lord appeared again in Shiloh: for the Lord revealed himself to Samuel in Shiloh by the word of the Lord (1 Samuel 3:21).

That is why every encounter with the Word is an encounter with destiny, when applied.

We must recognize that every destiny flies on the wings of applied revelation, which empowers us for change of levels in the journey of life. That means Word practice is key to our enviable destiny. For instance, God (the Word) instructed Isaac not to go down to Egypt. He obeyed and his enviable destiny was made manifest. When we operate according to the dictates of the Word, our enviable destiny manifests. Therefore, the more revelation of the Word we access and apply, the higher we soar in the journey of life (Isaiah 60:1, 8, 22).

Moreover, it is the Word we engage that creates the world we live in. Jesus said, …for without me ye can do nothing. ‘Me’ in this context is Jesus and Jesus is the Word of God. It is important to note that everywhere we see “God” or the “Lord” in scriptures, replace it with the Word. The Bible says:

That means God is the Word and the Word is God. Thus, without the Word, we are utterly limited.

It is important to also note that destiny in the Kingdom is not a destination but an adventure. For instance, the Church of Christ is ordained for continuous and endless growth. Jesus said:

And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it (Matthew 16:18).

From scriptures, we understand that we are members of that Church; thus, our destiny is ordained for continuous progress and where we stop is as determined by us. As it is written:

Among the mystery that establishes our glorious destiny in Christ is the mystery of feet washing. Remember that mysteries are simply divine secrets embedded within scriptures and apostles are custodians of the mysteries of the Kingdom. Paul in his letter to the Church in Ephesus said:

For this cause I Paul, the prisoner of Jesus Christ for you Gentiles, If ye have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which is given me to youward: How that by revelation he made known unto me the mystery; (as I wrote afore in few words, Whereby, when ye read, ye may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ). Which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit (Ephesians 3:1-5).

Moreover, mysteries are mostly wrapped up in simplicities and that is why complex minds never access or benefit from them (2 Corinthians 11:3).

But, what is the mystery of feet washing?

Feet washing is a spiritual medium through which we access all our redemptive inheritance in Christ. It is written: According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue(2 Peter 1:3).

Jesus demonstrated the mystery of feet washing in scriptures. The Bible says:

Jesus knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he was come from God, and went to God; He riseth from supper, and laid aside his garments; and took a towel, and girded himself. After that he poureth water into a bason, and began to wash the disciples’ feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded. Then cometh he to Simon Peter: and Peter saith unto him, Lord, dost thou wash my feet? Jesus answered and said unto him, What I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt know hereafter (John 13:3-7).

The above scripture is always seen as Jesus’ demonstration of humility. We must understand that it is far beyond an illustration of humility but a mystery being transmitted. That was why when Peter didn’t want Jesus to wash his feet, Jesus said to him: If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me… (John 13:8).

Thereafter, Peter replied: Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head. Jesus saith to him, He that is washed needeth not save to wash his feet, but is clean every whit: and ye are clean, but not all (John 13:9-10).

That means the mystery of feet washing clears all satanic resistances to our glorious destiny in Christ. Moreover, when our feet are washed, every aspect of our lives is impacted, whatever is not our portion in Christ is removed and our redemptive inheritances are delivered.

How, then, do we take delivery of our inheritance?

We must believe in the finished work of Christ: Saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing (Revelation 5:12).
We must understand that all our inheritances in Christ are real; they are not theoretical. Remember, it is also written:

He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not. Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted (Isaiah 53:3-4; see also John 19:30).

We must believe in the mystery of feet washing as a covenant access to our inheritance: It is written: And blessed is she that believed: for there shall be a performance of those things which were told her from the Lord (Luke 1:45).
Believe God to confirm His Word as our feet are washed: Concerning the disciples, the Bible records: And they went forth, and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following (Mark 16:20).
Believe in prophetic proclamations while this mystery is being administered: As it is written:
Believe in the Lord your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper (2 Chronicles 20:20; see also Matthew 10:41).

Every statement of scriptures is God’s prescription for our change of position and transformation. This is because God’s Word will always deliver under all circumstances. However, tireless Word practice is our access to the mysteries and revelation in the Word, and every man’s destiny answers to applied revelation.

This is why it is not enough to encounter revelation, we must apply ourselves to it so as to experience full manifestation of the blessings therein. That means how much we engage the Word of God in faith as a lifestyle determines how gorgeous, fruitful, impactful and enviable our destiny becomes. We have an enviable destiny in Christ and thus, we are not ordained to live pitiable lives. Therefore, receive grace to apply the revelation of the truth with delight in Jesus’ name!
