In John 6:25-71, multitudes were looking for Jesus and when they had found him on the other side of the sea, they said unto him, Rabbi, when camest thou hither? Jesus answered them and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Ye seek me, not because ye saw the miracles, but because ye did eat of the loaves, and were filled. Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed. Jesus told them point blank that it was because of the food they will eat that made them to be looking for Him. At the end, most of them deserted Him when they could not got the food that brought them to followed Jesus. They couldn’t received the word of God because another god has occupied their heart – their belly. Only Peter and other disciples stayed, others left.
Why are you following Jesus Christ? It’s important for you to ascertain what brought you to Christ because such thing will either keep you or discard you when temptation and persecution comes. If that ministry is opened because of your belly, sooner or later, discouragement will set in. If your service unto God is because of what you want to get from Him, you might be disappointed if you are not getting it. “When you serve God for what you want to get, after getting the thing, you run away from Him”.
